Shanghai Port Logs Import Increase by 63% in the First Half Year of 2014
In the first half year of 2014, Shanghai port imported logs 3,948,200 CBMs, increased by 63.32% on a year-on-year base. Shanghai port has been one of the most import port of our country¡¯s timber import, gathering timber from Africa, North America, South America, Europe, and Southeast Asia to enter China through Shanghai port. It is reported that the market demand started to increase sharply after March. Compared with the same period of last year, there was a obvious increase of operation quantity.
Along with the rapid development of China¡¯s economy, the export quantity of timber industry products has been increasing. Every year, China¡¯s market demand reaches 420 million CBMs. However, the conflicts between supply and demand becomes serious because of the implementation of protection on natural forests, the long-term shortage of wooden resources. What makes the conflict more prominent is that China government has stopped the timber-chopping in HeilongJiang and xiaoxing'an mountains , the two major producing areas of our country. All this leads to the huge influx of world-wide timbers. And that is the reason behind annual increase of China¡¯s Timber Import.
