White Paper on 2014 National Imported Food Quality and Safety Issued by AQSIQ

AQSIQ released  White Paper on 2014 National Imported Food Quality and Safety Status recently. Among our country¡¯s 481 ports of imported food, Qingdao port ranked fourth with the trading amount of 4.26 billion US dollars. In 2014, unqualified cases existed and were detected from almost all varieties of imported food. Therein, the disqualification batches of biscuits, cakes and cookies topped.

In recent years, more and more ports import food,but mainly concentrates in the coastal area. In 2014, our country had 481 ports that imported food products. Therein, the top 10 ports with largest imported food trading amount were: Shanghai, Tianjin, Guangzhou, Qingdao, Dalian, Shenzhen, Suzhou, Beijing, Xiamen, Taizhou. The total trading amount of imported food of these ten ports was 37.57 billion US dollars, accounting for 77.9% of total national trade volume of imported food. Meanwhile, the origins of our country¡¯s imported food became more international. Last year, China imported food from 192 countries/regions, and the top 10  countries that had largest  imported food trade volume were: EU, ASEAN, New Zealand, USA, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Russia, Argentina, and Korea. The total trade volume reached 39.78 billion US dollars which accounted for  82.5%  of total national trade volume of imported food.
 

According to the white paper, dairy products are still the imported food of biggest import quantity in our country. In 2014, the  top 10 imported food  products with largest trade volume were dairy products, oils and oil seeds, aquatic products, meats, cereal grains and their products, alcohol, sugar, beverages and other processed food and canned food. The total trade volume was 45.34 billion US dollars.


The countries/regions that had most unqualified batches detected by CIQ include EU, ASEAN, USA, Korea, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and Turkey. The detected disqualified imported food took up 90.4% of the total unqualified batches. In the name list, EU, Australia, New Zealand are China¡¯s major importing countries of dairy products. We found from the previous unqualified lists issued by AQSIQ that dairy products from these countries and regions were detected as unqualified before during random checking.

Among the unqualified imported food varieties, the top ten varieties with most disqualified batches detected were cakes and biscuits, beverage, cereal grains and their products, sugars, dairy products, alcohols, condiments and aquatic products, other processed food, dry fruits and nuts. They accounted for 84.1% of the total unqualified food batches
